Prayer apps

The best prayer apps in the UK

Five apps UK Christians use to pray, what each one is for, what it costs, and whether it asks where you are. Every price and date below was read from the app's own pages on 20 September 2026.

We make one of the five, and it is marked. The other four are described as they describe themselves.

Before you install anything

Four questions worth asking first

Does it ask for your location?

Some prayer apps work by recording where you walk, which is what makes their coverage maps accurate. That suits an organised prayer walk and suits some people much less. If you would rather not share where you are, check this before you install anything, and check what the privacy notice says is stored.

Does it name you?

Praying is not everyone's public business. Ask whether other people can see that you prayed, whether your church leader gets a list, and whether anything you write is stored against your name.

What does it cost, and who pays?

Most prayer apps for individuals are free and funded by donations. Tools built for churches are usually a monthly subscription paid by the church. Neither is wrong, but it is worth knowing which one you are looking at before you get attached to it.

Does it turn prayer into a score?

Streaks, badges and leaderboards keep people opening an app. Some find that a help and some find it turns something quiet into a performance. Look at what happens when you miss a day.

PrayerWalk

Straight answers

Questions people ask

What is the best free prayer app?

It depends what you want it to do. For a daily rhythm of prayer, Lectio 365 is free and takes you through morning, midday and evening. For keeping track of the people you pray for, PrayerMate is free and funded by donations. For praying for the streets and homes around you, Pray My Street is free and never asks where you are.

Is there a prayer app that does not track your location?

Yes. Daily prayer apps such as Lectio 365 and PrayerMate have no reason to ask. Pray My Street is a map app that deliberately never asks: you choose a street by searching for it or tapping it, so you can pray for a street on the other side of the country.

Which prayer app is best for a church?

For organised prayer walks with teams on the ground, PrayerWalk is built for it and charges the church a monthly fee. For a congregation praying for every street in its town from wherever they are, Pray My Street shows a church which streets are still grey without collecting anyone's location or name.

How can I pray for my street?

Start with the homes you can see from your front door and pray for them by number if you do not know the names. Many people work along their road a few houses at a time, then outward into the next street. Pray My Street exists to keep a record of that, so a street you have prayed for is coloured in and nothing gets missed.

Pray My Street

Pray for your own street

Every street on earth starts grey. Choose one, pray for it, and it turns green for everyone. Free, and it never asks where you are.

It is in its testing phase now. Put your name down to be invited to test it, or to hear the moment it opens to everyone. If you would rather just read along, there is the letter, which goes out once a month at most.
